what are the mdcat tips for repeaters students in pakistan | pakistan mdcat 2023?
I was the MDCAT repeater 2015, I had got 754/1100 marks and 955/1100 in FSc which were way too low than I had expected! Although I was hoping that I would clear MDCAT, but you know, you don’t always get what you want! Anyways, being repeater is maybe one of the most difficult phases of your life! you feel useless, you feel like the world is moving ahead and you are just left behind!
Your classmates and other fellows are getting admissions and you are here, sitting at home, just looking at their Facebook photos and statuses! I know how your parents feel when they see their kid not getting through and still, they stand for you because they know you have the potential! Relatives are also there to discourage you and make you feel like you can’t do anything, they will be pessimists and try to bury your confidence and courage but NEVER take these things to heart. The first step to success is your self-agreement that when you are ready to achieve something you say to yourself that, “Whatever happens, I will achieve this, it’s my dream and nobody can come in between.”
The first few days of being repeater are really hard, you don’t feel like going out, you don’t wanna meet anyone at all. You are getting bored and just feeling like you are dying inside. But later on, everything starts changing and you start getting better and better with each passing day. This is QUITE NATURAL so do not worry anything about this, we all repeaters have to go through this stage of trauma and sadness, but you know life doesn’t end here! How many people are there who got success at first huh? Even Beyonce one of the most acknowledged singers in the world had to go through hundreds of failed songs before she could finally release her biggest song yet. Remember JK Rowling? The one and the only author of THE FAMOUS Harry Potter novels who own billions of worth today. She was a failure, she was kicked out of the college at 19 because she couldn’t afford it, she wanted to end her life but then she realized that ending life is such a weak step! She could do much better, she just had to find her inner potential! And there she is today! One of the most acknowledged fantasy novel writers of the world! Imagine if she had ended her life that day? Will there be any Harry Potter? JUST IMAGINE!
Now coming to your tips: I had joined an academy for MDCAT preparation in 2015 that was good, there were daily lectures and tests, I practiced a lot but somehow, I just couldn’t manage to clear MDCAT. but in 2016 I didn’t join any accademy, I stayed at home, and I prepared my MDCAT all myself, even though I got a little help from the internet, but my main focus was my textbook.
TIPS:
- Enjoy the few days of your life after being a repeater, trust me, as much hard those days are as much, they are amazing too, you finally get to enjoy everything that you were planning you would do after MDCAT. You watch all the films and series you had downloaded 😀
- Start when you are ready. Don’t get pressurized or what others say, you are the one who’s going to take MDCAT not the other ones, so you have to listen to yourself! Start when you think you actually can whether its late (it doesn’t matter)! The only thing that matters is your honesty and your belief in God and yourself.
- Take it slowly, do not rush, do what you can! This is one of the very important tips here! The main mistake a lot of repeaters make is that they start cramming their books again 24/7 and with no reasoning. Even if you can do a chapter in one day that’s way better. Understand why you couldn’t get through MDCAT! See your mistakes that you made and ask yourself that can you not repeat these again? There are those students too who get to clear MDCAT in first attempt, Afterall, they’re humans too! Try to find reasons why you could not clear MCAT and what are the things that toppers have but you don’t.
- Make a schedule. This is really important, and this will keep you organized and on track. Now here is my schedule that I made after 4 months of MCAT. Morning: Chemistry (2nd year) Afternoon: (Physics) and at night I would do Biology and English as they are kind of easy subjects, and you can do them fast, but chemistry and physics needs a lot of time and practice. Do one chapter of 1st year and then the 2nd year!
- Study more conceptually and better! Now if you didn’t study better than before then what’s the point of being a repeater? Study each line and understand it, if you can’t, do it again and again till you can! Watch online YOUTUBE videos of lectures that you don’t understand! Do not panic, I know it’s very hard to read those same books again but trust me it’s worth it!
- You will have a lot of time for MCAT prep (unless you are improving your FSc too) which all depends upon you that how are you going to manage FSc with MCAT as well! I can’t really say anything because I didn’t improve FSc.
- You don’t really have to join any academy if you believe that you can do it and if you are determined enough! Personally, I didn’t join any academy in 2016 because I didn’t want to waste my dad’s money again LOL XD JK you can if you want to or at least your parents want you to join!
- Write what you cannot memorize, for example there are a lot of chemical equations and formulas in Organic and Inorganic chemistry that you cannot cram by mere reading, so writing is always a better option!
- Go through all the MCAT past papers and see what you can do or not! You will get the basic ideas of all type of questions although you have gone through MCAT but still you will get more experience!
- Practice MCQs especially of physics, this is a very important thing before appearing in MCAT! Buy any practice books of the company that you like, or you can also find a lot of online practice papers on the internet! Plus, if you are joining an academy then you don’t have to worry because you can get a lot of tests there!
- Study regularly and 3 months before your final MCAT start studying much and more! Stop using social media or any other things unless in your break time or you are having lunch or dinner! If you cannot stop using your phone, then at least make a timetable and reduce the time you spend on phone. Your books need you! Study them! think how happy your parents would be after seeing you getting admission in medical college! :))
- On the day of MCAT (August 2016), I was very nervous, and my dad was with me. He told me that YOU WILL DO IT! he gave me a hope and a wave of encouragement ran through my body! I didn’t panic, I stayed calm and kept quiet and just praying to the God, when we were given the paper of MCAT, I wasn’t even nervous I was totally calm because I knew that I had worked hard enough for this day and night! I kept solving the paper! I didn’t panic and I didn’t lose my confidence. I was breathing deep and my whole focus was on the statement of questions! I didn’t look at the clock, I just kept on solving paper! When the paper ended! I was happy, I was exciting! I was sure that I had done it better! when I went outside the room there was a genuine smile on my face which I hadn’t seen before, I met my dad waiting outside talking on phone with my elder brother! He was very curious to know about me! When they saw me smiling, he got a little less nervous and then I told him that I did better!!
- At last, we came home and checked the key, I ended up getting 1016/1100 which were a lot for me! Everyone was so happy! I got really happy, and I realized that Hardwork always pays off!
AT THE END JUST REMEMBER THAT MCAT ISN’T THE END OF WORLD! THERE ARE A LOT OF BETTER OPPORTUNITIES WAITING FOR YOU OUT THERE! :)!
